Definition
Kibbutz is a Hebrew word that means "gathering" or "together." It is a voluntary collective community, and none other like it exists in any other country. The movement began as a combination between the ideologies associated with socialism and Zionism. The Kibbutz attracts all different types of people with the common goal to achieve a society where people voluntary work to maintain equal lives amongst all members. Although the movement's ideologies have transformed over time, there are many that remain constant. Kibbutzniks did similar work to that of the working class or even peasant class, yet they benefited the lifestyle of a middle class worker.
