The AV Davis Summer Institute in Urban and Global
Studies is a program run by Trinity College that supports students
who want to conduct research, internships, or community projects in the
Greater Hartford Area. The Institute's goal as quoted on the
Trinity College Website (www.trincoll.edu) is as follows:
"to
further integrate the Trinity College emphasis on urban and global
learning with our current undergraduate curriculum, to enable students
to develop skills that will serve them both in the classroom and in
the broader, more experiential reach of their education, to engage
them practically and conceptually in the urban environment of
Hartford, to link Hartford with other global urban locations,
optionally to prepare them for study abroad, and to help them
integrate study abroad into their overall Trinity curriculum."
This summer I am studying the
availability of ecoliteracy (a form of environmental education that you
may read more about by going to my page on ecoliteracy) for youth in the
Greater Hartford Area (in the form of books or programs). I plan
to work with the Hartford public libraries, schools, and parks in order
to get a diverse collection of information. Based upon my findings
that I will organize into an evaluation during the first phase of the
program, I will work with students during the second phase of the
program and attempt to essentially "test out" ecoliteracy on them in an
attempt to create an effective ecoliteracy program for youth.
